Carl Hansen combines traditional woodworking techniques with the latest technology to produce furniture of lasting value. Most of the furniture produced today was designed by leading Danish architects back in the 1930s and up to the 1960s, but the design, the vision and the craftsmanship behind every piece of furniture is still as relevant today as it was then.
Ever since the foundation of the company, sustainability plays a major role for the products of Carl Hansen & Søn. That does not only mean that the furniture is durable for generations, but also includes sustainability in every manner. One focal aspect lies on environment protection that does not only concern raw materials but also the fields of distribution, logistics and production methods.
The wood of Carl Hansen comes exclusively from sustainably managed forests. All wood used are subject to regulation EUTR 2013 of the Dane forestry laws and valid international certificates. For the most part, Hansen uses oak, beech and ash wood which stem from the Danish forests - of course, they are operated according to the principles set of the national Danish 'Wood Scheme'
The sustainable production and the timeless design transform each Carl Hansen Chair into a classic piece. Made of trees that grow since hundreds of years, the company produces chairs for generations as well. It expresses respect for such precious resources – this is how Carl Hansen & Søn think. The passion for handicraft art makes a unique piece out of every Carl Hansen chair. The best examples therefore are the Wishbone Chair and the CH 07 Shell Chair designed by Hans J. Wegner. Both chairs are characterized by simple design and clear outlines. The continuous aim for organic simplicity, comfort and stability of Hans J. Wegner is displayed in them. This is how the furniture gets more and more beautiful with every year of life.
All of it proves: Carl Hansen furniture is precious! There is a carefully developed concept, high class materials and handicraft behind every piece of furniture. Each Carl Hansen chair, each piece of furniture has its own history – the Danish manufacturer is convinced by it.
