The story behind the German candle classic

The Stoff Nagel candle holder is an icon of German design from the post-war period. Its story begins 20 years before the first design with the family Nagel who lived in a small village near Cologne after the Second World War and earned their living with handmade ashtrays, vases and candle holders.

It was the unusual, geometric shape that made the candle holder a talking point in the art and design scene at the end of the 1960s and brought it into countless houses and apartments. The idea came to Hans Nagel during a fall on a skiing vacation. He was so fascinated by the symmetry that three of his fingers had left behind in the snow after the fall that, together with Werner Stoff the Stoff Nagel candlestick together with Werner.

After the candlestick was no longer available for decades, the Danish company Stoff Nagel Copenhagen based on the original drawings by Hans Nagel and Werner Stoff relaunched. Originally made of brass, the candle holder for three pillar candles is now also available in other materials
