The Modern Houses are part of the Nepal Projects by Menu. The project was created in collaboration with the aid organisation Danida and supports young women in one of the poorest regions of the world by generating new jobs with fair working conditions.
The Traditional Houses are caskets in the shape of a house, which are made from cardboard and a finish of cotton.
This gives the houses not only a nice appearance, but also a special feel. The Traditional Houses in different sizes are suited for keeping small items of various kinds: paper clips, jewellery or small souvenirs can be stowed stylishly in it.
The roofs serve as the lid, which can be removed completely. Functional and aesthetic aspects are equally served with this product that can't only be used as a storage box, but also as a decorative element the houses in each living room.
The minimalist design comes from the Note Design Studio, while the production of the houses is done in careful manual labour in Nepal, in order to support the local women and craft companies there. With regard to traditional production methods, the houses were designed to create a product that can be manufactured locally. The combination of Scandinavian design and traditional Nepalese handicraft makes the Traditional Houses by Menu a special accessory with fair character.
The hand-crafted houses from the Nepal Collection are available in two different variants with traditional pitched roof or as modern Bauhaus variation in different colours.
