The ROK espresso machine is a manually operated machine. A wonderful espresso, comparable to the one of your favourite café, ready in an instant. The ROK espresso machine is made of polished aluminium and is completed with a small plastic cylinder, into which the hot water is poured.
To get the perfect espresso, two things are essential: the internal pressure and the right temperature of the water. The water shouldn't boil, but should be cooled to 90°C. Conventional espresso machines produce too low a pressure and use boiling water: things that often give the espresso a bitter taste. The ROK espresso machine however, is independent from the heat source: the water is boiled separately in a kettle and put aside briefly before use. The pressure can be regulated via the two levers on either side.
And this is how it works: firstly place the espresso cup under the machine and put on the kettle. Now put the chosen ground coffee in the appropriate compartment and place it back into the machine. Next, fill the plastic cylinder on top of the machine with hot – not boiling – water. Fill the container with as much water as possible, as this raises the internal pressure.
Now move the lateral arms of the machine upwards. The water flows out of the cylinder into the container with the ground coffee. Allow the water to soak for 10 to 15 seconds and then press the arms slowly down. Here water and air are trapped in the chamber and forced through the ground coffee. Press the arms down to their lowest point until the entire espresso has run into the cup. Repeat the process a second time if not all of the moisture was squeezed out of the coffee powder.
The ROK espresso machine has already been awarded numerous times e.g. the Japanese Good Design Award for its rustic design as well as for its functionality.
- In order to avoid bending the pistons, please only use espresso powder for the ROK espresso machine – not coffee powder!
