This Unikko coaster by Marimekko for glasses, cups and pots is woven entirely from natural jute and features the classic poppy flower of the Unikko pattern. Jute is a durable fiber that requires less water, fertilizer and pesticides than cotton - so this round coaster is not only a pretty eye-catcher, but also a wonderfully environmentally friendly decoration on any dining table.
The famous poppy pattern Unikko was created in 1964 at a time when the collections of the design house Marimekko mainly contained abstract prints. The designer Maija Isola wanted to make something interesting out of this organic theme and designed a whole series of iconic floral prints that today stand for creativity and inventiveness.
