Alvar Aalto designed his Armchair 41 for a determinate building as well as all his other pieces: The armchair was initially designed for the hospital of the name-giving Paimio, but it fast started its trip around the world. Since the Armchair 41 Paimio is completely made out of birch wood, its silhouette is extremely slim. The armchair still has foreign qualities which make it more comfortable that it seems on the first sight.
Thanks to these qualities, the Armchair Paimio 41 became one of the most famous pieces of furniture of Aalto. Artek honours this, by means of making an Icon Poster for Paimio. The German design duo Greige displayed the armchair in its iconic shape as an pictogram on a poster, in order to enable the possibility of having the classic piece of furniture in everyone's living room.
