Description

The Panton Chair is a design icon of the past century. The miniature Panton Chair in a 1:6 scale corresponds the original out of the Vitra Museum collection in construction, material and colour, in every single detail.

Verner Panton's free swinging chair is the most consequent expression of a design understanding that wants to realize an object in one single material and a flowing form. The Panton Chair has entered the market in the 1960es. Its undisputed status as a classic of the modern furniture design has assured a space in the permanent collection of the Vitra Museum to it.

The miniature version of the Panton Chair is a faithful copy and totally consists of dyed thorough polypropylene. Because of this faithfulness the miniatures from Vitra are not only valuable collectors' objects but also the ideal illustrative materials for universities, design colleges and architects.

The miniatures collection from Vitra is unique in the world. For every single miniature the company possesses a licence contract with the designer or its heir. In many cases Vitra works directly together with the designers for the miniatures, to produce a miniature as close as possible to the original.

The production of the Panton Chair

The Panton Chair is manufactured using the modern injection molding process. In this process, the basic material, a granulate at 230°C, is injected into a mold. Weighing 10 tons, the machine presses the chair into shape, giving it its iconic design. After cooling, the front part of the mold is removed and the Panton Chair chair is almost finished. Now the edges are finished and other finishing touches are made - and there's one more design piece in the world.
