The 111 Navy Chair is the result of a collaboration between Emeco and the Coca-Cola Company. Both companies have combined their classic products, the Navy Chair and disposable plastic bottles respectively, to make this new chair.
The central idea behind the 111 Navy Chair is recycling: every 111 Navy Chair from Emeco is made of approximately 111 recycled Coke bottles, hence its name. On top of the 60% recycled disposable bottles, the Navy Chair is also composed of materials such as fibreglass that ensure additional stability.
The 111 Navy Chair shows that recycling does not necessarily have to be the reuse of waste; it shows that new products can emerge from old ones while still offering high quality and great design without being inferior to the competition.
The 111 Navy Chair design is based on Emeco's classic 1944 Navy Chair 1006. The chair formed the basis for Emeco's success. With the 111 Navy Chair, Emeco and Coca-Cola have transformed something that people throw away into something long-lasting.
Supporting recycling is Emeco's and Coca-Cola's collective goal. Both companies aim to use three million plastic bottles per year to produce the 111 Navy Chair.
