The Panton Chair is a design icon of the last century. It is the most consistent expression of a design conception, produced in a single material with a flowing form. Since its introduction in 1967, the Panton Chair by Vitra went through several production stages representing the technological progress in plastics processing.
At the end of the 90s, Vitra worked in collaboration with Verner Panton to produce the final authorised version of the Panton Chair. With this model, Panton's ultimate objective was achieved: a plastic chair as an inexpensive industrial product.
The Panton Chair by Vitra features numerous characteristics that make it unique: weighing only 5.5 kg, it is extremely stable and can carry a load of up to 120 kg. The chair is thus suitable for the most diverse areas and purposes, whether at home, in a cafe, a waiting room, etc.

The Panton Chair is constructed using a modern injection moulding process. The base material, a 230°C granulate, is injected into a mould. The machine presses the chair into shape with a ten-tonne weight and gives it its iconic design. After cooling down, the front part of the mould is removed and the Panton Chair is almost ready. The edges are then finished and other fine detail is worked out - then before you know there’s one more designer creation in the world.
