One Step Up is a shelf by Normann Copenhagen, whose simple and straight design summarizing form, material and function to a unity. One Step Up creates room and storage possibilities, but it can also be used as uncomplicated room divider.
The designer Francis Cayouette has been inspired by a ladder for One Step Up and he created a flexible piece of furniture which is easy to move and ideally adapted to be used as storage possibility for the most different things. Cayouette used the characteristic forms of ladders and included the movability of an object into his creation.
Detais such as the hardware of the shelf are apparently included in the design of the One Step Up, offering authenticity to it. The connection of natural ash wood and functional metal boards create dynamism. The high quality materials are connected to a completed form.
The designer Francis Cayouette explains: "Multi-functionality is an important topic for me. I wanted to create a flexibly usable shelf which would be movable without burdensome disassembly, even creating new rooms in the house and in offices. The idea of including the form of a classic ladder which is easy to fold and move seemed logical to me. The result was a shelf with viewable mounting hardware and a wooden frame, similar to a ladder bit with the quality and composition of an exceptional piece of furniture."
Besides the low One Step Up by Normann Copenhagen, there is also a larger edition: One Step Up (high). Both of them are also wonderfully combinable.
