The Pienet Kivet pattern from 1956 was the beginning of the following decades of successful cooperation of the designer Maija Isola and Marimekko. The simple pattern is still highly modern and a graphic eye-catcher today.
The Pienet Kivet pattern isn't really round, but it has some edges that are only seen on the second sight. The designer Maija Isola was inspired by pebbles when she designed this pattern, that's what the name of it means in English: small stones.
The original pattern from 1956 emerged with cuts from a scissor from Maija Isola. Her daughter Kristina downsized the pattern along the years in order to offer more expressivity to the textiles. The minimalistic shapes of the Marimekko Pienet pillowcases are still graphically impressing.
