Founded in 1950 by Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., the Good Design Award is presented annually to sophisticated and innovative design drafts. The Good Design Award is one of the oldest and most traditional design prizes to be awarded worldwide.
The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design is the organizer, promoter and sponsor of the Good Design Award. It is Chicago's most prestigious cultural institution and the only museum of its kind in the United States of America. Every year about 3000 applications from more than 40 nations are received to secure one of the coveted trophies.

About the Good Design Award
The jury's decision criteria, consisting of company representatives, international diplomats and professionals from the design and art scene, are primarily innovation, form, material, construction, concept, function, utility value and aesthetic impression of the products.
The winners of the Good Design Award will receive a license to use the Good Design logo, which was designed in 1950 by the American industrial designer Mort Goldsholl.
