Red Dot: Product Design 2007

The winners of the red dot design award 2007, one of the greatest and most renowned international design competitions, have been chosen. Out of the absolute record number of 2,548 presented products, which were sent to Essen out of 43 countries, 43 products have been honored with the "red dot: best of the best" for their exceptional and innovative designs.

The winners came out of Brazil, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Lichtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea and the USA. The celebrity awarding in front of more than 1,000 visitors took place the 25th of June 2007 in the Essen Opera, the Aalto Theatre.

"The number of presented products as well as their quality standard were exceptional in this year", commented Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and president of the international design council LCSID of the this-year's competition. "Especially remarkable however, is that China and Taiwan become stronger from year to year. They are no longer satisfied with the role as longer working table of western industries, but shine meanwhile by themselves with excellent design. "This design boom is especially displayed in the product groups –Media and Entertainment Electronic- and –Computer and Accessories-, which are clearly dominated by Asian manufacturers.

"Quality increment by original design concepts from manufacturers out of Asian business rooms gets more and more strategic importance of design as competition factor in globalization times – Design can be characterized as central innovation movement of the department", sayd the design expert and professor for industry communication. An award in an international renowned design competition such as the red dot design award means and accordingly sign for the product and its potential of surviving on international markets.
