Having received multiple awards for his creative design, Fredrik Mattson is an established member of the Blå Station Ensemble.
Mattson was born in Malmö in 1973. After an apprenticeship to become a carpenter and two years of working as a cabinet maker, he studied furniture and interior design at Stenebyskolan and in Stockholm.
Mattson compares architecture and design to music. "As a designer, it is my goal to compose melodies that you will want to hear again and again without getting bored."
He proved his virtuosity with the multifunctional seating object Innovation C, designed in 2001, which led him to winning the Young Swedish Design Award and the Architectural Review Award, London. But the Elle and Fatback Armchair as well as the Chair 69 by Mattson have incited enthusiasm with their sophisticated design.
In the Blå Station Ensemble, Mattson has also proved to be an excellent team player. In collaboration with Stefan Borselius, he designed very modern furniture such as Snooze, Level and the stackable Sting Chair. It was awarded with the coveted Red Dot Design Award and also won five more prizes.
