Something characteristic for the concept-based design company Hulger is the open, playful access to a design process, combined with the aim of making new technologies accessible to a wider public.
Hulger was founded by Michael-George Hemus and Nicolas Roope in 2005. Their common inspiration comes from the gaps in things that already exist. This might for example be the unexplored areas on the interface of art, technology and design.
Light is the basic condition to reproduce forms and colours and to create atmosphere. That's why Hulger believes that light should be treated carefully and presented aesthetically. With Plumen, the world's first design energy saving light bulb, in cooperation with Samuel Wilkinson both designers achieved a light source that fulfils those demands.
Besides light and lamps design, in their London based studio Hemus and Roope make telephone listeners that are connectable to mobile phones. Hulger is responsible for some of those unusual ideas we see every day.
