Sheet Metal Seating Furniture from France
Xavier Pauchard is the founder of the company Tolix, known for its iconic and timeless seating out of sheet metal.
Pauchard, a pioneer of electroplating and an entrepreneur with an inventive spirit, trained as a plumber and, shortly after the end of the First World War, founded a company for galvanised household goods made of tinplate.
In 1927, he had the Tolix brand protected and specialised in the production of chairs.
His armchairs and chairs made of sheet metal could be produced in bulk, so they were comparatively cheap and beautiful to look at.
The metal furniture from France quickly took over public spaces and then private homes.
After Pauchard's death in 1948, his son Jean Pauchard took over the management of the company.
