Hay

The aim of Hay design is to give new life to the Danish furniture design of the 50s and 60s. Instead of simply copying the old masterpieces, Hay furniture redesigns the pieces in a modern, contemporary context.

The Hay design company was established in Denmark and first came to the public eye at the IMM (International Interiors Fair) Cologne in 2003. With this, the company from Horsens has a relatively short history compared to some of its legendary Danish competitors.

We might assume that the eponymous designer Rolf Hay would reject classical Scandinavian design and fight against it. But that's not his style. Instead, the aim is to give new life to Danish furniture design from the 50s and 60s, as it was then that Denmark established itself as a leading nation for design.

Instead of simply copying the old masterpieces, Hay furniture is redesigned in a modern, contemporary context. This dream is being pursued with the cooperation of young and emerging artists as well as renowned international designers and has been crowned with success from the very first few years.

The cooperation between the company Hay and the designers is exemplary: The Copenhague Collection, for example, was created in intensive cooperation with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and served to refurnish the University of Copenhagen with functional and aesthetically beautiful furniture. Working with designer Sebastian Wrong, a complete sub-brand called Wrong for Hay was brought to life and first presented at the London Design Festival 2013.

Another characteristic of Hay design is the wide assortment of products: the range of Hay furniture is distinguished by its unique diversity. Side by side with iconic furniture such as About A Chair, you can find complete sofa landscapes and a huge range of pieces such as bed linens, glassware, office accessories or decorative items.
