Swedese was founded in 1945 by the two brothers Yngve and Jerker Ekström and Sven Bertil Sjöqvist. Yngve Ekström managed the company all the way to his passing. Today the company is managed by Elisabeth Johansson. The headquarters are located to Vaggeryd in Småland, Sweden, where the company's first factory is located.
Swedese specialises in the production of furniture. The goal of the company is to create beautiful furniture for the future that builds on the traditions of modern Scandinavian design. For this reason Swedese works with forward-thinking designers who share in the timeless ideals of architecture. Swedese produces furniture with high comfort and sophisticated technical innovations.
Yngve Ekström, one of the co-founders of Swedese, was a universal designer who understood how to design entire houses, but also knew how to design furniture and even clothing. Together with well-known design greats such as Alvar Aalto, Bruno Mathsson, Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjaerholm, Yngve Ekström was at the core of a generation of designers who made the concept Scandinavian design famous all over the world. The most well-known design by Ekström is the Lamino armchair from 1956, which is still manufactured and sold all over the world.
