It is already clearly visible from the outside that the architect Frank Gehry fulfilled his duty: With the Vitra Design Museum the American fulfilled his first project outside of the USA. In the deconstructive style, the design museum means a milestone in contemporaneous architecture, which searches for equals with its expressive art.

The outside impression completely fulfils the interior values: Two to three expositions every year about historic and current developments of design ensure information for visitors about the meaning and the versatility of design. Inspirations, processes and backgrounds are presented beautifully, also introducing relative categories, such as architecture, arts and culture.

The basics of the exposition of the Vitra Design Museum are the wide collection of furniture, lamps and industrial design of Vitra, which counts to the biggest of the world. Vitra's collection of industrially made objects reaches from 1850 until today. Nearly all the expositions are presented as nomad expositions, which are also presented on other design museums of the world.

The assortment of the Vitra Design Museum is fulfilled by an all-including offer of events, guided visits and workshops. The architecture tours over the Vitra Campus display the relationship of design and the different architecture types, which are represented by different buildings of worldwide famous architects. In the Vitra House there is finally the possibility of experiencing design in harmonic surroundings and to buy miniatures of furniture classics, re-editions of famous design classics as well as design products.
