Award-winning Italian design: The Compasso d´Oro

Compasso d'Oro (Golden Circle) is one of the most prestigious design awards in the world and is aimed specifically at design produced in Italy. It is awarded every three years by the Italian Association for Industrial Design ADI (Associazione per il disegno industriale), which has set itself the goal of promoting Italian design and honouring innovation.
The winners of the coveted award are exhibited in a special museum in Milan. The jury is made up of international experts and, with a few exceptions, is made up exclusively of Italian designers.
Its importance can be seen in the place where the prize is awarded: In the Piazza Compasso d´Oro a square in Milan named after the design prize.

Historic Design Award

The Compasso d'Oro was created in 1954 by Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti. In its early years it was held at the department store chain La Rinascente before ADI took over the patronage of the competition in 1958.

In its more than sixty-year history, over 350 outstanding industrial design products have already received the Compasso d'Oro.
