The Taika drinking glass by Iittala concentrates on the decorative patterns of the Taika collection and gives them new, softer shapes.
New animals complete the magical character of the Iittala collection. The Taika series has been very popular since it was first presented in 2007. For this reason, Iittala decided to expand the series with several new pieces in 2014, including the Taika drinking glass. The "magical" pattern (since this exactly what "Taika" means) is etched into the glass, which is a traditional technique of glass decoration, according to the designer Klaus Haapaniemi.
Taika is a modern glass on a traditional foundation. And Taika really is different: When I was a boy, I used to watch the small mole by the Czech illustrator Zdeněk Miler and many other eastern European and Russian animation films. I still like the hand-drawn style of those animations, designer Haapaniemi explains.
That hand-drawn style is obvious in the pattern of the Taika series. Taika adds completely new facets to the existing Iittala assortment, but still respecting the famous mix & match principle of Iittala, which represents the possibility of combining all the Iittala products with each other.
