London is Always Worth a Short Trip!

Besides the classic tourists attractions, such as Madame Tussaud's, the Tower of London, the transport hubs Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey or the London Eye, the British metropolis also offers a lot for fans of arts, design and architecture.

The London city map is already embossed by everyday design which has long ago crossed Britain's borders, including the "Black Cab" taxi, the Routemaster Bus or the famous red phone booth.

Of course there are famous collections on the topic of design in the London museums:

  • The Tate Modern doesn't just include early works from the British Art & Craft movement like those of William Morris. There are also works of British Pop-Art there, such as the provocative works of Allen Jones or post modern and contemporary works by Damian Hirst and Jeff Koons.
  • The Victoria & Albert Museum is a real highlight for all design fans: the Dr Susan Weber Gallery presents 600 years of furniture design and production with more than 200 exhibits. Chairs, tables, wardrobes and more, by designers such as Thomas Chippendale, Frank Lloyd Wright, Eileen Gray, Charles & Ray Eames, Tom Dixon or Ron Arad are seen in here.
  • The Design Museum has more than 3000 objects from the early modern period up to contemporary design: furniture, lamps, technology and household goods. The history of design in times of mass production is wonderfully represented in here.

International design aficionados and experts meet once a year at the London Design Festival. Numerous expositions and events like the famous 100% design at Earls Court Two, attract the focus of the design world every September.
