The fascination of good form.

Mono is closely connected to the names of renowned designers who often rethink objects of daily use to give them formative designs. Mono products represent high-quality materials as well as a meticulous handcrafted production.

An intrinsic sense for the quality of life and an extraordinarily high design standard define the family-owned business. For generations, mono, which is headquartered in Mettmann, has been producing cutlery and table accessories with a timeless aesthetics. The legendary mono-a cutlery, which is internationally renowned as a design classic, has outlived trends for decades.

The level of innovation, design quality, and superior manufacturing standards of every item, have made mono what it is today – a brand that shapes table and living culture.

Wilhelm Seibel I founded the Seibel Britannia Goods Factory in 1895. In 1911 the first branch factory, Hessische Metallwerke Gebr. Seibel, was founded. The company attained global recognition in 1936 with its Olympia cutlery provided for the Olympic Village in Berlin. Thanks to the very healthy economy of the post-war years, staffing increased to almost 1000 employees. In the 1950s, a major decline in the cutlery industry resulted in the demise of almost 90% of all German manufacturers. Thanks to the bold decision by Herbert Seibel to focus on design-oriented products, a collapse of the Hessische Metallwerke was avoided.
