Dark

Dark was founded in Belgium by Marnick Smessaert in 2000. The lamps manufacturer isn't a typical company, and Smessaert isn't a typical manager. Dark is more a project, moved by passion: passion for good design, innovation and illumination. The creative centre, the office and the manufacture are in Belgium.

Dark stands for unique light armatures, lamps, lights, sculptures and light concepts that reach the most different moods. The results are numerous design awards: the company could collect 39 prizes until 2009, among them are six of the desired red dot design awards. Consequently, Dark is considered one of the international trend setting light producers.

The company counts with 16 employees and works regularly with external designers. This brings new challenges every time. Not always the great names of the scene are behind good lamps, but creative heads that knowingly leave the paths worn off. In such cases Marnick Smessaert, founder and soul of Dark, is demanded: He tries to understand how something works or not, completely following his intuition.
