Stefan Borselius was born in 1974 in Malmö. After a three-year cabinetmaking apprenticeship, Borselius first studied furniture design for two years at Stenebyskolan and then worked as a restorer. In 2002, he received his master of fine arts from the School of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm and shortly after that, he joined the designer ensemble at the Swedish manufacturer Blå Station. Stefan Borselius was considered the thinker and listener there, weighing up pros and cons and selecting his words just as carefully as the expression of his design.
Together with Fredrik Mattson, Borselius created successful designer furniture for Blå Station, such as the Snooze lounge chair, the Level table series and Sting stacking chair, the latter bringing the young design team the coveted Red Dot Design award as well as five additional titles.
However, Stefan Borselius is just as impressive as an individual talent. With the unusual Peekaboo lounge chair, which Borselius designed for Blå Station, the young designer showed that he has his own individual style. His designs can be interpreted as an attempt at making the irreconcilable contrast between tradition and modernity harmonious. Borselius himself says on his work: "I want to find new forms and functions for traditional furniture and furniture for traditional people in a new age."
